The Dark Souls video game contains a hazardous RCE (remote code execution) bug that might allow attackers to damage the Devices of online users. PvP (player-versus-player) servers have been temporarily disabled in all vulnerable versions, including Dark Souls II, Dark Souls III, and Dark Souls Remastered.
According to Kaspersky investigators, the bug lets an attacker execute nearly every single program on the victim’s device, allowing them to rob private information or undertake any program they desire – including downloading malware, gaining access to sensitive data, or stealing credentials for cryptocurrency mining.
The Elden Ring game is said to be affected by the same bug.
Gurucul’s founder and CEO, Saryu Nayyar, remarked that this incident highlights the dangers of remote workers accessing corporate information via personal devices and home networks.
He emphasized that companies, vulnerable to these vulnerabilities, must take quick measures to protect their consumers by delivering updates.
In the meantime, gamers who are affected should keep an eye on their devices for unusual activities like crypto-miners.
