The latest cybersecurity news round-up from NordVPN:

Our first story is a continuation of last week’s biggest cybernews hook. The devastating security flaw uncovered earlier this month has received several panicked patch updates. It has taken three different security fixes to seal the breach. Companies affected by this flaw range from tech giant Apple to the biggest names in gaming, such as Minecraft.

Meta has taken its first steps against cleansing the internet of fake Facebook sites. Earlier this week, Meta filed lawsuits against hackers who operate and own almost 40,000 sites that replicate its intellectual properties.

For those who are unaware, Joker malware, when currently infesting a device, will seep into your contacts list, transfer the data over to a malicious server, and then sign every contact up to paid subscription services. The name Joker is based on a comic book villain It hides malicious intent behind the legitimate “mask” of a seemingly harmless app.

Researchers from New York University Abu Dhabi have revealed security vulnerabilities that have been apparent since mobile networks ran on 2G. These vulnerabilities become known during a process called “handover,” or handoff, where a session is transferred from one site to another without interruption of the call. It’s during this process that hackers with enough tech savvy can intercept the session and redirect the signal to one of their own cell sites, with relatively cheap equipment, too.

Following a ransomware attack in October of last year, hacker group Cl0p has finally leaked the records of over 13 million criminals online after the victim company, Dacoll, refused to pay an undisclosed ransom amount. Dacoll owns software that is currently used by over 90% of all UK police. Some of the data leaked also includes the faces of those arrested for driving violations.
