01:02 Microsoft Accounts Targeted by Russian-Themed Credential Harvesting | Cybersecurity News
04:02 What can we Learn?

While there are worries that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict would launch a global cyberwarfare conflagration, small-time criminals are stepping up their efforts in the midst of the crisis. Phishing emails are now being sent to a number of Microsoft clients, with a warning of account threat, attempting to steal important credentials and other private information.

Malwarebytes has revealed numerous spam emails that seem like an effort of Russian hacking. Researchers noted that the subject line for the email tells the victim that their Microsoft account has unusual sign-in activity.

Such spamming emails have an option to report the user, and also have an unsubscribe button. If someone clicks on these options then a new message will be created with the exact subject line of “Report the user.” Experts say responding to these emails can cause several risks to a Microsoft account. Also, spam emails have many red flags in common, especially including grammatical errors.
