Hey Nordies,

As usual, last week was full of events. So let’s see what happened.

But before we move on, don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get the latest content.
Now let’s get on with the news.
Chinese hackers targeted Taiwanese institutions with a new backdoor. This persistent campaign lasted for at least 18 months.
The aim behind the intrusions was espionage, and cybercriminals used a stealthy backdoor to take over the compromised machines.

This attack is just one of many China-linked attempts at targeting Taiwan.

News Corp, one of the largest UK media companies, was targeted by a cyberattack recently. The hack may have leaked the files of journalists and is allegedly linked to hackers in China.

Cybercriminals did not steal any financial data, so it seems that spying was their main motivation here as well.

North Korea continues to steal millions of dollars from financial institutions and cryptocurrency exchanges and firms. However, it uses that money to fund its missile and nuclear programs.

Between 2020 and mid-2021, North Korean hackers stole over 50 million dollars of digital assets. Another report claims that last year the country snatched assets worth around 400 million dollars.

In 2019 the United Nations revealed that North Korea accumulated around 2 billion dollars for its missile programs by using cyberattacks.

Mark Zuckerberg is considering shutting down Facebook and Instagram in Europe if Meta can not process Europeans’ data on US servers. The tech giant stated this in its annual report.

Current agreements allowing transatlantic data transfers are now under heavy scrutiny in the EU. Meta requires European organizations to adopt a new framework for the procedures. It claims that sharing data between countries and regions is essential for the provision of its services.

Russia sentenced a teen to five years in prison for plotting to blow up its Federal Security Service in Minecraft. His two companions received suspended sentences of three and four years.

The teens were found guilty of training for terrorist activities. The boys, then aged 14, were also arrested back in June 2020 for hanging political leaflets up at the local FSB office with slogans claiming that “the FSB is the main terrorist.”

That’s it for now.
