In this episode of cybersecurity news: Missouri Governor Mike Parsons threatens the ethical hackers who notified the state of data exposure on a public facing website. Specifically, Missouri teachers, Social Security numbers were exposed. When the researchers reported the exposure to the state of Missouri the governor held a press conference and called the researchers malicious hackers. The governor also stated the report could result in a 50 million dollar investigation into the incident and the “hackers”Why is this such a big deal? Ethical hacking is an important technique used by the entire security community to ensure malicious hackers don’t find bugs errors and misconfigurations.
