Hey Nordies,

Happy New Year!!! And as usual, we’ve got some news for you. So let’s see what happened on the cybersecurity front at the beginning of 2022.
But before we move on, don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get the latest content. 2022 started with a few significant events, so let’s check them out.

Grass Valley, a city in California, experienced an extensive data breach exposing the social security numbers and other data of city employees, their spouses and individual vendors.

The leak also exposed driver’s license numbers and health insurance information. In addition, it affected those who have given their information to the police.

While the breach took place in 2021, only recently has it has been widely reported on.

This week, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency added 15 vulnerabilities to its catalog.

The vulnerabilities affect the products of such widely known companies as Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle.

CISA created the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog to force federal civilian agencies to address certain vulnerabilities.

Consumer group Which? has uncovered flaws in online banking security systems. It revealed that some banks failed to use the latest protection tools for their websites and allowed their customers to set insecure passwords. The list included such well-known names as Lloyds, Santander, HSBC, and The Co-operative Bank.

Keeping in mind that cases of banking fraud rose 97% in 2021, it’s alarming to see such irresponsibility.

Morgan Stanley has agreed to a $60 million settlement in a data breach lawsuit. The US financial service company was subject to a suit due to two data exposure incidents involving around 15 million of their clients.

The company stored the personally identifiable customer data on its legacy equipment. It later sold this equipment without properly wiping the data from it.

Konni, a North Korean cyberespionage group, initiated a series of attacks on Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hackers used email phishing attacks to inject malware into targeted systems. The whole campaign consisted of three waves and started in October of 2021. It coincided with the passage of the Russian Vaccine Passport laws.

That’s it for now. Stay safe!
