According to researchers, the BotenaGo botnet has been disclosed to GitHub, spawning millions of IoT (internet-of-things) devices and routers in danger.
Recently Alien Labs found that the BotenaGo code had been released to the widely known GitHub software development platform. Now that the malware’s source code is exposed to any hostile attacker, additional malicious activities can be easily added.
According to Alien Labs, there is a strong possibility of a major increase in these malicious programs, potentially leading to the emergence of new malware species that might bring millions of IoT devices and routers at peril.
Alien Labs advise three steps to keep this virus off the devices:
• On Linux servers and IoT devices, keep Internet exposure to a bare minimum and use a preconfigured firewall.
• Install safety measures
• Install vendor-provided security and firmware updates as soon as possible
• Also, scan your device for any unwanted open ports or dubious programs.
